Who we are

TMC is an non profit Organization that focuses on reducing the number of teenage girls who become pregnant and therefore parents - teenage mothers / child mothers taking the Human Rights based approach.

Although there is a growing awareness of the plight of young people with special emphasis on young girls (as you may be aware), there is still a high teenage pregnancy rate that even contributes a lot to the high school drop out in Uganda. Recent reports by UNESCO have significantly indicated this!

We do this using two major dimensions;

1. Shelter and Home Care

We shelter teenage pregnant girls especially those rejected or facing social stigma as a result of pregnancy. Here we offer them total care - feeding, clothing counseling, empowerment and training and make referrals for the medical needs until 2 months after they have delivered.

2. Advocacy , training and awareness for prevention

We visit the children and youths in schools and those out of school and have open dialogues on issues concerning sexuality and development. Here our intention is to target those who have not messed up yet with unhealthy sexual encounters in a bid to reduce chances of teenage pregnancy.

 We involve the teachers, parents and community people in this struggle by letting them know that rejecting a pregnant teen does not solve the challenge rather collective effort to provide adolescents with information of how to safe guard themselves as well as supporting those who have fallen prey of unhealthy sexual encounters.

Our Philosophy is that much as she could have contributed to her status of early parenthood, she needs all the care and support to continue enjoying her Human Rights as well as being able to nurture her dreams afresh. It is like falling down and getting up to walk again.
